How is the load-bearing capacity of a single-row angular contact ball bearing related to the contact angle?

The load-bearing capacity of a single-row angular contact ball bearing is closely related to the contact angle. The contact angle refers to the angle between the contact point of the inner and outer rings of the bearing and the axis of the bearing, usually expressed as θ. The design of angular contact ball bearings makes the load-bearing capacity directly affected by the contact angle. Specifically, the larger the contact angle, the smaller the radial load that the bearing can withstand, but the larger the axial load that it can withstand; conversely, the smaller the contact angle, the stronger the ability of the bearing to withstand radial loads, but the axial load-bearing capacity will be reduced. This is because as the contact angle increases, the contact area between the ball and the raceway increases, so that the axial load borne by the bearing is more evenly distributed.

In practical applications, the selection of a suitable contact angle is determined according to the specific working conditions. For example, in the case of a large axial load, a larger contact angle can be selected; in the working condition where the radial load is mainly borne, an angular contact ball bearing with a smaller contact angle is selected. Common contact angles are 15 degrees, 25 degrees and 40 degrees. Bearings with 15 degrees are suitable for lighter axial loads, while bearings with 40 degrees are suitable for larger axial loads.
